The philosophy of ISHIBASHI Shojiro, founder of the Ishibashi Foundation,
was the originating force for the Foundation's activities of the
Museums. Since its opening half a century ago, we have been striving
continuously to make our museums more attractive to and beloved
by the people.
Just a five minute walk from the Tokyo Station takes you to the
Bridgestone Museum of Art located in Bridgestone Building in Kyobashi.
The collection of this museum features masterpieces of Impressionists"
works and French paintings in the early 20th century.
Here, masterpieces by MANET, MONET, RENOIR, CEZANNE, MATISSE, PICASSO,
DUFY and other top artists to be savored by art lovers, will leave
a deep mark upon the impressions of visitors, and imbue them with
a sense of discovery while also relieving them of the tensions of
the big city.
On the other hand, the Ishibashi Museum of Art and Asian Gallery,
core of the Ishibashi Cultural Center in the city of Kurume, Fukuoka,
will welcome visitors in the year-round splendid natural setting
of the beautiful gardens.
The Ishibashi Museum of Art boasts of an extensive collection of
the modern Japanese Western-style paintings, including works by
local artist SAKAMOTO Hanjiro, AOKI Shigeru, a truly great genius,
and KOGA Harue, all of whom were originally from Kurume. Additionally,
you will also find on show works by other leading Japanese artists
of modern Western-style painting from Kyushu such as KURODA Seiki,
FUJISHIMA Takeji, OKADA Saburosuke , HYAKUTAKE Kaneyuki, WADA Eisaku.
The Ishibashi Museum of Art, Asian Gallery gives visitors an opportunity
to enjoy masterpieces of the Japanese calligraphy, antiques and
works of art from Asian countries.
